teaching

Some of my most rewarding moments in my career so far have been in teaching. I really do thrive on connecting others to astronomy, whether that's folks who already have extensive background knowledge or those who have never really thought about space before. For many, the more mathematical aspects of astronomy can provide a significant barrier, even if the interest level is high. I do my best and will always do my best to emphasize that astronomy is for everyone, and struggling with math should never prevent you from learning something fascinating!

Teaching Experience

teaching assistant (ASTR101, UMD)

2025-2026

During my first two semesters, I worked as a TA for our introductory astronomy course for non-majors. I was responsible for planning weekly discussion sections, running multiple weekly labs, and answering questions during lectures, among other things. In my second semester, I was given a lot of freedom in how I covered content during my discussions, so I did my best to come armed with interesting demonstrations or, if nothing else, beautiful space pictures that connect back to our class content.

lab instructor (ASTRO101, 102, 201, U of M)

2023-2024

During undergrad, I worked as a telescope operator running weekly observing nights for our various introductory astronomy courses (both for majors — 201 — and non-majors — 101 and 102). My favorite telescope to operate was our 0.4 meter in the dome, as it encouraged the most student questions about what we were looking at and how the heck the telescope and the dome all worked. Allowing intro students a direct line to the night sky in a way they had probably never experienced before was very important to me, and I hope to continue similar work in the future.
